A New Direction: The 2027/2028 Roster Clog Report
I'm going to be blunt. The NCAA is about to drop a hammer on the recruiting classes of 2027 and 2028. We are moving out of the "recruiting" era and into "roster management." If you don't understand the difference, the math is going to bury you.
The New Reality: The "5-for-5" Rule
The NCAA is moving to a model that grants athletes five full years of competition, instead of four. No more redshirts. No more medical waivers. You play five, you’re done.
Feature | The Rule | The "Coach" Reality |
Eligibility | 5 Seasons in 5 Years | Rosters are getting older. You're competing with 23-year-olds. |
The Clock | Starts at 19 or HS Grad | If you re-classed in 8th grade, you’re burning college years in HS. |
Redshirts | Eliminated | No "waiting your turn." You're either Day 1 ready or you're a waste of a spot. |
The "Super Senior" Trap
Coaches will be incentivized to keep a 23-year-old "Super Senior" who knows how to win conference titles over a 17-year-old freshman they have to house-train. If you’re a 2027 or 2028, you aren't just competing with kids your age. You’re competing with seniors who aren't ready to leave.
The Action Plan
1. If You’re Committed (2027s)
A verbal commitment isn't a contract; it’s a placeholder.
The Move: Check in weekly. If you aren't acting like a teammate, you're replaceable
The Script: "Coach, fitness is in the books. Watched your game against [Team]—noticed the midfield rotation. I’m ready to fit that role on Day 1."
The Goal: Make it impossible for them to replace you with a 5th-year senior.
2. If You’re Uncommitted (2027s & 2028s)
Coaches are deciding right now: "Do I keep my senior for one more year, or take a flyer on a recruit?"
The Move: Stop chasing "Name Brands." Start auditing Gaps.
The Goal: Find the rosters where the seniors actually have to leave.
The Bottom Line
The entrance for high schoolers just got smaller. If you don't have a plan to prove you are "Day 1 Ready," you’ll be replaced by someone four years older than you.

The Event Survival Guide (PDA & Beyond)
PDA is a circus. Whether you are in NJ for the showcase or at any other major event this spring, if you show up without a plan, you’ve already lost. You’re just donating travel money and hoping for a miracle.
We don't do "hope." We do math and execution. This is a business trip, not a family vacation. If you show up to a showcase like PDA without a tactical plan, you’re just a tourist donating travel money to the tournament committee.
I don't do "hope." I do math. Here is the 20-day execution plan for all four classes to make sure you aren't just another jersey number in the wind.
1. The Target List: Gaps vs. Foundation
Stop scrolling the "Expected Coaches" list. It’s a marketing tool, not a recruiting tool. Use your Athletic Fit data to see who actually needs your position.
Class of 2027: You are hunting for GAPS. With the "5-for-5" ruling, rosters are clogged. Match the attending school list against our D1 Commitment List in the Classroom. If they already have three 2027 commits in your position, don't waste the ink. Find the holes.
Class of 2028 & 2029: You are building the Foundation. Narrow your focus to 10–15 schools where you actually fit academically and athletically. You aren't looking for an offer yet; you’re looking to get on a whiteboard.
2. The Double-Tap Email
Recruiting is about being organized. If a coach has to hunt for your schedule, they’ll just move to the next kid.
10–14 Days Out (Now): The "Intro." Short and clinical. GPA, key stats, and your game times.
48 Hours Out: The "Confirmation." "Coach, just confirming I'm on Field 4 at 9:00 AM. Looking forward to seeing you there." It proves you’re a professional.
3. The Sideline Reality
D1 coaches are there to work. They aren't there to socialize. They cannot give you feedback on-site, and they definitely don't want to talk to parents.
The Rule: Stay quiet. Let the kid play. Don't be the reason a coach crosses a name off the list because the parents are a liability.
4. The Post-Game Audit
The work starts the minute the whistle blows.
Class | D1 Outreach | D2 & D3 Outreach |
2028/29 | No Feedback Allowed. Send a "Thank You" + 10-sec clip of your best play. | Reach out 24 hours later. Ask for specific feedback. They can talk. |
2027 | Feedback Allowed. Send a "Thank You" + 10-sec clip. Ask for an evaluation. | Reach out 24 hours later. Send a "Thank You" + 10-sec clip. Ask for feedback. |
30-Day Scholarship Ready Plan
I built the 30-Day Scholarship Ready Plan to be your insurance policy. We don't just "help" you; we audit your brand to ensure it meets the elite standard required to actually get a response.
The Video Audit: We cut the fluff and move your "Lethal" clips to the first 15 seconds. If you don't hook me in 15 seconds, I’m gone.
The Outreach Audit: We kill the "Dear Coach" templates and build a pitch that forces a click.
The Foundation: We take you from "Invisible" to "Scholarship Ready" in 30 days.
A single mistake can cost you $100,000 in tuition and the chance to play at the next level. Don't leave your kid's future to a "good enough" highlight tape.
The Proof: It Works if You Do the Work
We don’t just talk about this; we execute it.

🏆 The Proof: From "Complex" to Committed
Recruiting isn’t a mystery, and it’s certainly not about luck. It’s about having a repeatable process. When you have a clear map, the "complexity" of the D1 landscape suddenly becomes manageable.
Take a look at Francesca. Her family just reached out to share the news that she has officially committed to Seton Hall (D1).
Here is what Francesca’s Mom and Dad had to say about the process:
"Hi Steve,
We wanted to thank you for helping our daughter, Francesca in her recruitment journey. In our initial call you were very honest and gave us an outline of the best steps to take moving forward.
The information you shared on your community website was very helpful. Posting her before big tournaments and game weekends was also great for her exposure. It’s such a stressful journey and everyone’s is so different! Best of luck to all the recruits still trying to find their place. Steve is an asset to have in this process.
Colette & Vinnie Scinicariello ” -Mom and Dad of D1 Commit.
Francesca didn't just "show up" and get an offer. Her family used our platform, stayed consistent with their outreach, and executed the exact strategy I’ve built from 18 years of sitting on the other side of the recruiting desk.
This is exactly what we do at the Soccer Network. We take the "noise" and the confusion out of the equation so your athlete can focus on the result: Getting the commitment!
Cheers
Steve
